An unpretentious farm in Suffolk, England, is the site for an interesting and informative model of the Second Temple that some acclaim as the best in the world. Built on a 100:1 scale, the surprisingly-detailed 12' x 20' model is constructed from materials made on site by Mr. Alec Garrard, whose interest in the Temple prompted him to make a comprehensive search of the Mishnah and the works of Josephus, Alfred Edersheim, and many others to construct the model.

Mr. Garrard's vision was to construct a model of the Temple where Jesus taught and ministered. This was the Temple of Zerubbabel that was constructed following the Babylonian captivity and rebuilt and refurbished just prior to the birth of Christ by Herod the Great, with spectacular architectural and engineering additions. The model includes both the Temple and its courts and the Herodian extensions on Mt. Moriah. The model is constructed in such a way that it can be dismantled so that the interior chambers can be viewed. Models of priests, Levites, and worshippers simulate the life of the Temple.

Mr. Garrard has produced an excellent, high-quality book, The Splendour of the Temple, that details his research into the Temple and the people and events that were associated with it. With 112 (8-1/4" x 11-1/2") pages, this book contains 58 full color photos of various aspects of the model, along with 6 architectural floor plans. The accompanying text is both informative and readable, giving thorough explanations of the details of the Temple and of the activities that took place within at this site.
