Praise in the Gates
Shoresh Ministries Shoresh Ministries is an exciting organization that works primarily within Anglican/Episcopalian communities to promote understanding of the Jewish roots of Christian faith. The word Shoresh is Hebrew for "roots."Much of the effective work of education that Shoresh promotes is carried out in the facilities of Christ Church in Jerusalem. Located just inside the Jaffa Gate of the old city of Jerusalem, Christ Church is the oldest Protestant church in the land of Israel. It was begun by visionary Anglicans who loved Israel and the Jewish people and wanted to establish a congregation that would share genuine Christian love with the Jewish people in the land of Israel.
The vibrant congregation of Christ Church today ministers to both the Christian and Jewish communities in Jerusalem. The church is the site for a Jewish Shabbat service and a Christian Sunday service each weekend.
Staff members of Shoresh in Israel host numerous Holy Land tours each year that bring Christian clergy and lay persons to Israel to see the land of the patriarchs of Israel and of Jesus and the apostles. These tours feature excellent lectures and other presentations that Christianity's Jewish roots.
Shoresh has also developed a month-long Sabbatical tour program for pastors and church leaders with extensive teaching on the Hebrew foundations of Christian faith. Another important tour package is that which Shoresh and Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry will cosponsor.
Marcia Lebhar, director of Shoresh Ministries, lives and works in Jacksonville, Florida. Her husband Neil is rector of Jacksonville's Episcopal Church of the Ascension and an active supporter of Shoresh Ministries
